Kyung Hee University to Host the 2nd Miwon Peace Prize Ceremony During the 45th Peace BAR Festival

Kyung Hee University announced that it will host the 2nd Miwon Peace Prize Award Ceremony on September 21, 2026, as part of the 45th Peace BAR Festival, an international conference commemorating the United Nations International Day of Peace.

The event is expected to bring together scholars, researchers, policymakers, educators, and international leaders from around the world to discuss peace, sustainability, scientific responsibility, and the future of humanity.

Recognized as one of South Korea’s leading international peace conferences, the Peace BAR Festival has served as a platform for global dialogue through academic conferences, cultural programs, youth forums, and international cooperation initiatives.

Kyung Hee University Continues Its Global Peace Mission

Hosted annually by Kyung Hee University, the Peace BAR Festival reflects the university’s long-standing commitment to promoting global citizenship, interdisciplinary research, and international cooperation.

This year’s program will include keynote speeches, academic forums, and international discussions addressing today’s most pressing global issues, including sustainable development, emerging technologies, scientific responsibility, and peacebuilding.

According to the university, the event aims to strengthen collaboration among universities, research institutions, policymakers, and international organizations while encouraging innovative approaches to global challenges.

Miwon Peace Prize Celebrates Outstanding Contributions to Humanity

Established in 2024, the Miwon Peace Prize recognizes individuals and organizations whose work has made significant contributions to peace, human dignity, and the future of humanity.

Presented every two years, the prize includes an award of USD 200,000, funded by the Miwon Peace Prize Foundation established by the Kyung Hee Alumni Association in North America.

The award continues the peace philosophy of Dr. Young Seek Choue, founder of the Kyung Hee University System, whose vision of “Creating a Civilized World” continues to guide the university’s educational and international initiatives.

International Award Ceremony Scheduled for September 21

The official award ceremony will be held during the 45th Peace BAR Festival on September 21, coinciding with the United Nations International Day of Peace.

Earlier this year, the Miwon Peace Prize Selection Committee announced that The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists had been selected as the recipient of the 2nd Miwon Peace Prize in recognition of its contribution to advancing peace through science and public engagement.
